About the Hackathon
The DPiP Hackathon is a two day code marathon running alongside the CityLAN gaming weekend. Starting on the Friday morning and running through to Saturday evening, contestants are challenged with developing a prototype around a given topic, and then presenting it to the rest of the group who must then vote on their favourite project.Get FREE Ticket!
As the event will be running alongside CityLAN, the challenge will be to create a prototype game, but with a twist! The twist will be revealed on the day, so get your thinking caps on, step into gaming mode, and start thinking about what kind of project you could create.
You can use whatever technology or language you like; from something you’re comfortable with, to trying out a brand new set of tools or skills for an extra challenge!
The two day event will consist of a solid 24 hours of design and development, followed by presentations and awarding of the prizes.
How to participate
The event is open to teams of 2-5 people of all digital disciplines and skill levels. If you don’t have a team, but would like to add your skills and abilities to another team: there will be chance to join a team before the event starts.
Are you a code ninja or a dev magician? Do you know your way around a command line? Or maybe you just want to try your hand at a new language or piece of dev kit? Love developing, but not sure where to start on game development? Don’t worry we’ll have starting blocks and good pointers for you! The DPiP Hackathon is open to all developers who have software or game development skills or experience.
Are you an illustrating guru? Do you know your vectors from your bitmaps? Can you design exciting and immersive interfaces? Or maybe you just like playing games and know what makes a great one? The DPiP Hackathon needs you to help guide the developers into making fantastic experiences. We’re looking for anyone with design or illustration experience.
Keep in mind that you will need to be able to show off your idea and prototype to the rest of the group in a 15 minute presentation on Saturday afternoon and try to win them over for a chance to win the top prize!
We will provide free energy drinks, free pizza (courtesy of Pizza Hut) and other food and snacks throughout the two days, free soft drinks and water will be available throughout the day and we will also have a place to chill.
